  • 🌱When your seed packets are a work of art:
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY 💰
Right before a raging rain storm blew through, I picked up my @botanical_interests seeds. Lots of traditional garden veggies to add to the tomatoes, peppers, and berries already here. But I couldn’t help myself - some zinnia, calendula, nasturtium, echinacea and tulsi seeds made it into my box.🌸
Tomorrow I am clearing an unsightly and basically bare border to plant with catmint, salvia and rosemary. And maybe I will get the garden planted. But judging by the sheer volume of rain we received this afternoon - I suppose we may need to dry out for a couple of days first.👩‍🌾

  • Hawthorn... honestly. Ya got me like 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
The local hawthorn bloom has coincided with rainy weather. Which is not favorable for harvesting these lovely blooms and young spring leaves. Hoping to dry out for a day so that I can gather a small basket of flowers and leaves to dry for tea making and oil infusing.

But honestly? We need the rain. Western Oregon has been unseasonably dry for the last few weeks. I am worried about the fire danger this summer and the bigger picture for the climatic dynamics in our area. It’s dry. And that’s weird.

Want to learn more about hawthorn? Check out my book, The Backyard Herbal Apothecary. Available wherever books are sold (did you know it was picked up nationally with Costco?🥳), or from my website. Tap link in bio then click on this picture to order an autographed copy.

No, not that kinda dirty. Sheesh... 😝
Let's talk about using herbs to improve your soil. If we can help the land heal itself, perhaps we have a shot of healing ourselves.
Did you know that yarrow is considered a compost activator and can be used as companion plant to increase the health, vigor and aromatics of neighboring plants?
